Since I started my home reno a couple of years ago I quickly found out that styling a room can be more challenging than styling a person. There’s so many factors to think about – scale, how one room ties into the next, a cohesive story, and a mindful mix of color and texture. My window treatments were no different.

I don’t make any decision before consulting with my good friend interior designer Lauren Messina. I was so stuck on what kind of window treatments to get for my dining room. Shades or blinds would cover up the beautiful natural lighting so I finally decided on cornices so my windows didn’t looks so naked.

I’ve always been a fan of Emily Daws Textiles and I knew I wanted to have something from her fabric collection. Each pattern represents an iconic Lowcountry location or staple.

We chose the Jekyll Fabric in Onyx which mimics the curved and curly stems of the island’s Spanish moss. I love a bold modern pattern and the black and grey squiggle pattern remind me of Keith Haring’s art.

My brother Alex, a renaissance man, made these cornices in just a couple of hours. All you need is wood, batting, a staple gun, electric drill, leveler stick, and mounting brackets to hang it up.

The next room in my house that was badly in need of window treatments was my den. This is where all my creativity happens – from my desk to my DJ setup.

It’s also my favorite room in the spring and summertime because it leads out to my backyard and I love watching my kids playing in pool and looking at my garden.

I chose a custom fabric by Stout and the pattern in Connect The Dots in Sunset. This beautiful blush hue ties in perfectly with the pastel colors in my art and bathroom wallpaper. I even had my seamstress make a couple of pillows to tie in with the curtains.

The beautiful hardware is also from Stout. When you’re hanging up quality fabric choosing high quality hardware is a must. The Chardonnay gold finish is a posh pairing with the blush fabric.

In my boy’s bedrooms I ordered custom shades from Blinds Chalet. They carry every single color you can imagine and so many choices of fabrics.

For Mateo’s room I chose a navy linen which ended up being the perfect match to the fabric of his headboard. The wallpaper is by York Wall Coverings and I discovered this amazing brand from Iola Modern.

Picking out wallpaper can be very overwhelming because there are so many choices out there. I suggest getting all the samples you’re interested in and tape them to the wall and see which one stands out the most.

I was so excited to find the perfect match again of shades and headboard for Sebastian’s room. This navy velvet shade from Blinds Chalet was the perfect color match and fabric to the velvet headboard.

I couldn’t be happier with how everything worked out harmoniously. The graphic gold wallpaper from York Wall Coverings is a playful pattern that will stand the test of time when he turns into a teenager.
