The star-studded red carpet spectacle that took place as guests made their way up the famous Met steps is just as important as the exhibition. After all, the Met Gala—often dubbed the “Super Bowl of fashion”—has created some of the most memorable (and viral) celebrity red carpet looks from the past decade. This year, the A-list attendees were asked to dress “in honor of Karl”—meaning we saw some custom ensembles that paid homage to Lagerfeld’s design signatures, including his Chanel tweeds and his own black-and-white uniform. – Vogue

The exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art featuring “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” will be on view through July 16, 2023. The show spotlights Lagerfeld’s unique working methodology, focusing on the late designer’s stylistic vocabulary as it was expressed in “through lines”—aesthetic and conceptual themes that appear time and again—in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019. More than 200 objects are on display, and Lagerfeld’s sketches accompany most of the pieces, underscoring his complex creative process and collaborative relationships with his premières d’atelier.
